Schakowsky gets an “F” On Safety and Security
This week, the newly formed “Keep America Safe” organization released its ratings for Congress, based on their votes on national security issues, going all the way back to 2001. They gave my opponent, Jan Schakowsky, a big “F.” That’s not all: she was tied for last among all members of the House of Representatives. That’s especially bad, given that she sits on the intelligence committee and chairs its oversight subcommittee.
Ms. Schakowsky is failing because she puts politics oand ideology ahead of the national security of the United States. Last year, she tried to initiate an investigation into a plot at the CIA. It was a trumped-up charge, designed to cover up Nancy Pelosi’s lies about waterboarding. Those kinds of investigations and false accusations cause real damage, lowering morale in our intelligence services and making it hard to retain dedicated staff.
Jan Schakowsky recently admitted: “I think, probably, people when I first went to Congress, people wouldn’t picture me on the intelligence committee.” (http://www.youtube.com/user/sonnyhtv#p/u/7/lqydzmwn3UM) Her performance since then has vindicated that initial assessment.
The people of the 9th district care deeply about the security of the United States and our allies. We may have different and diverse views about how best to protect our nation, but we certainly want our representative in Congress to care deeply about that goal. That is why we need a new representative, and why we need a fresh start!
