Our volunteers are the BEST!
This morning, I was at the Park Ridge Metra station. I’ve been greeting commuters at that station since June–in fact, by August 13, I had been to every single Metra and CTA station in the district. Today, some Democrats showed up for the first time–Lieutenant Governor candidate Sheila Simon, and two volunteers from Governor Pat Quinn’s campaign. I’m told Jan Schakowsky was at the same station yesterday morning.
It was great to see the difference in enthusiasm between our campaign and theirs. While the Democrats huddled in the station and in their cars to get away from the wind, our volunteers were out on the platform. While the Democrats missed commuters coming in on either side of the platform–since they probably hadn’t worked this station before–we had all the access routes covered. And best of all–we were smiling!
We have six days to go to make history. And I want to take this opportunity to thank all of the volunteers who have woken up early to be at the trains with me–and without me, when I had to attend an interview or breakfast meeting. You have braved the wind, the rain, and the snow; you have had the courage to go up to complete strangers and tell them to vote for a first-time candidate; you are the reason we will win on Tuesday!
