Jan Schakowsky’s Special Interests
1. Trial lawyers
Congress wouldn’t allow tort reform in ObamaCare, according to former Democratic National Committee chair Howard Dean, because Democrats depend on contributions from trial lawyers. That’s especially true of Schakowsky–they’re among her top donors.
2. Big unions
Schakowsky pushes job-killing legislation like Card Check because she takes large amounts of money from unions, who know the law hurts workers but want more political muscle. The irony is that big labor’s policies are keeping union workers out of jobs.
3. Far-left groups
Schakowsky has raised lots of money from far-left organizations like J Street–which lied about the fact that it is funded by foreign donors and George Soros. Schakowsky gives these groups a platform and respect that they don’t deserve and can’t get otherwise.
4. Defense companies
Schakowsky’s #1 priority in the new Congress, according to her website, is to “eliminate private military contractors.” Yet she takes cash from political action committees (PACs) associated with private defense companies like Raytheon and Lockheed Martin.
5. Insurance industry
In April 2009, Schakowsky said she wanted to “put the private insurance industry out of business.” Yet Schakowsky is still happy to take contributions from the private insurance industry, and she also owns insurance stock through her mutual fund holdings.
