Ending Corruption

Make Corruption Public Enemy #1

I will make corruption public enemy number one in Washington, and end the dishonesty and outright theft that have wasted our money and eroded public trust in government. I will propose rule changes to the House ethics committee so that a member of the minority party chairs the committee, and so that the minority party can initiate investigations. That will create a positive incentive to investigate, and help restore public trust in Congress.

Investigate and Punish

I will vote to remove the leadership positions of corrupt representatives like Charlie Rangel — who failed to pay his taxes but is in charge of writing the tax laws. I will also push for investigations into the millions of dollars that representatives spend on their own personal expenses. I will also vote to deny funding to groups such as ACORN that have used public money to support illegal activities.

Remove the Czars

I will introduce legislation to remove the ‘czar’ system, which gives the executive too much power and undermines Congress’s critical oversight role. Corruption is the inevitable outcome of the concentration of too much power in too few hands. That is especially true when the party holding both executive and legislative power is committed to expanding the size and power of the federal government.
