Reforming Health Care

Repeal, and Redo

We must repeal the recent health care bill, and start over. The bill that passed in March is designed to fail and was passed over the objections of the American people. It will raise the cost of insurance for millions of people while lowering the quality of health care. We must start anew with a bill that extends affordable health insurance coverage to all Americans–without relying primarily on the government to do so.

Support Sensible Reforms

I will support proposals to reform our health system that allow people to buy insurance across state lines; reform the tort system by awarding costs against frivolous lawsuits; and provide tax credits to families and individuals towards the cost of insurance. Similarly, I will support the expansion of health savings accounts, which will put patients in control and make insurance portable and affordable.

A Fair And Effective Process

I will insist that Congress must spend the time and energy necessary to get health reform right. We must stop rushing massive bills through Congress, stop demonizing doctors and insurers, and stop cutting Medicare benefits to cover the costs of new programs. I will also propose new reforms to be handled separately, such as creating incentives for medical schools to offer more comprehensive training.
