Respecting Differences
Pride in Diversity
I am proud to be from one of the most diverse districts in America. Diversity means more than color, religion, or nationality. It also means diversity of opinion, diversity of thought, and diversity of values. We celebrate what makes us different, as well as our shared love of America and freedom. We want leaders who are prepared to represent that diversity, and stand up for that freedom.
Oppose Prejudice and Discrimination
I will oppose any and all prejudice and discrimination, from whatever source. I will push hard for equal opportunity — not quotas and set-asides, but real investment in minority communities that will allow people to achieve their dreams. Our national leaders must work harder to listen to all of the people — including new immigrant communities that deserve their place of respect among fellow Americans.
Listen to the District
As a congressional representative, my first duty will be to represent the diverse views of my district, whether I agree personally or not. I will make my own ideas and positions clear, but will listen to and give voice to the range of opinions among my constituents. I will never make claims about what my district believes without consulting its residents first, and I will treat opposing views with respect.
